I always encourage younger clients to seriously consider filing a tax return even before they turn 18, as this helps you to build up RRSP contribution room which can be a huge benefit down the line when you decide to begin investing money for your eventual retirement.
Aside from that, many people end up not filing in their younger years because they didn’t have any income or would not owe taxes. It is beneficial to file a tax return (if if you have no income) when you turn 18 for the simple reason that you may be eligible for the Climate Action Incentive in addition to ensuring that you will not miss out on any GST credit payments you may receive when you turn 19 years of age.
I work to ensure that I investigate each situation to ensure that all relevant returns are filed for my clients.
